Punk veterans The Casualties have ended an eight-year recording hiatus with the release of a new single, “People Over Power,” their first new music since 2018 and their debut release for Hellcat Records, the band announced this week.
The track is framed as a direct protest song and arrives as a forceful call to action against injustice and entrenched authority. Built on the band’s trademark fast, aggressive sound, “People Over Power” marks a continuation of The Casualties’ long-running commitment to political punk rooted in street-level resistance.

Vocalist David Rodriguez said the song reflects a growing sense of frustration with the state of the world. “We’re getting stomped by the world, by the government, by the bad news,” he said. “We want systemic change, total transformation, degradation to the state. ‘People over Power’: It’s as simple as it sounds.”
Drummer Marc “Meggers” Eggers described the track as an unambiguous protest anthem. “It’s a protest song through and through,” he said. “We want the vibe to be: You listen, get angry, get your crew together, and get out on the streets.”
Formed in 1990, The Casualties have built a reputation as a voice for the disenfranchised and disillusioned, carrying forward the confrontational spirit of early punk pioneers such as The Exploited and The Sex Pistols. Over the course of their career, the band has released eleven studio albums, three EPs, and three live records, consistently pairing high-speed punk with lyrics denouncing authority and championing resistance.
The current lineup consists of David Rodriguez on vocals, Jake Kolatis on guitar, Marc “Meggers” Eggers on drums, and Doug Wellmon on bass. With “People Over Power,” the group signals both a return to recording activity and a renewed push to keep the political heart of punk alive.
